DoulaCare

Oh hey!

I’m ‘that doula’ Emily.

I’m so happy you’re here.

Always a complimentary consultation!

I’ve had a profound interest with the human body since I was young, especially when it comes to childbirth. The journey into the world of doula care began long before I even knew what a doula was. Being the youngest of four daughters, I had the opportunity to be an Auntie at a young age. Through this, not only did it grow my innate desire to nurture babies and young children, but for new parents too .

Being active support in the births of my nieces and nephews during my teenage years, I discovered that the birth and postpartum experience was WAY beyond just baby snuggles. I quickly realized the gaps in perinatal care but wasn’t sure where to start. For years I sat with the question; but what about the Mom?

When the pandemic struck, all signs guided me into the first formal doula training through DONA intl, The Matrona & Doula Canada. I emerged from this period of growth with deep passion to ensure you as the birthing individual, feel safe, heard, informed and fully supported throughout your unique journey. My overarching goal is to bridge any gaps in your birthing experience, empowering you with the confidence to trust your own intuition and make informed choices.

Dou-la

Doo-lah

noun, but more like a verb

Also see: Cheerleader, hype-(wo)man, Birth Bestie.

A doula is a professional support person that helps equip parents with not only informational but physical and emotional support as well. Support is provided before, during and after childbirth.

As a doula, I’m not there just for you as the birther , but for partners too. Continuous support and a familiar face that will be there the whole time to provide reassurance.

I want to embolden you both to walk into this era informed and empowered.

Postpartum Support

The Fourth Trimester (the one that no one probably told you about)

The well-being of both you and your baby are interconnected.

But you just spent the last 24 hours welcoming your new baby earthside, a few micro naps between being sifted through postpartum care and boom you’re home.

Now what?

Taking care of yourself allows you to be better equipped to care for your baby. It's essential to find a balance that works for both your needs and the needs of your family.

Easier said than done, right?

A Postpartum doula can help support you during the whirlwind of transitioning into this new era with you!

  • Need a nap, pass that baby.
  • Need a snack? I prepared some in the fridge while you were napping.
  • Running into x,y,z- who can I call? I have plenty of resources to suggest.
  • Need someone to just sit with and listen? I’ll get the tea ready.

Hey Friend, support awaits you.

Postpartum support is not “cookie cutter”, this means each visit could look different! These are some ideas

of what that could look like:

  • Give you time to rest, take time for yourself
  • Assistance with baby care (sleep, feeding, play, etc)
  • Caring for older siblings
  • Going out with you & baby (first outings, assisting with errands, etc)
  • Emotional support, reassurance & encouragement, companionship, validating concerns
  • Sourcing & providing evidence-based information
  • Meal planning & prep
  • Light household chores (laundry, dishes, tidying of high-use areas)
  • Referrals & resources
